Why a top-up never requires your password
“Just let me sign in and top it up myself” is the most common way game accounts get stolen. Here is how to tell a shop from a scammer.
Official game payment gateways accept an account number and an amount. Nothing else: no password, no code from your email, no access to a linked social account.
What the scam looks like
- They ask for your login and password “to sign in and top up from inside”.
- They ask for the confirmation code from your email or SMS, supposedly to verify something.
- They offer half the market price and rush you to pay.
Any one of those three is reason enough to close the chat. A real shop needs nothing but your account number.
If you already handed over access, change the password and unlink the email immediately — scammers usually have only a few minutes before you notice.
